What is GKS?

Global Korean Scholarship, previously known as Korean Government Scholarship Program ( KGSP ), offers students from all over the world a chance to study in South Korea. The scholarship program was an initiative introduced by the government to help students get the best education has to offer without the financial struggle. 


With the affiliation of NIIED, the South Korean Government launched this program to promote international cultural exchange among the youth.


NIIED - A South Korean Government organisation that promotes and cultivates Educational resources globally with its education fairs and programs such as ‘Study Korea Project’ as well as organises TOPIK worldwide.

Who Can Apply?


  • Nationality
  1. Applicants must have a citizenship of NIIED designated countries invited for participation in the GKS program.
  2. Both applicants and their parent(s) must not hold Korean citizenship or dual citizenship unless the parent(s) hold different citizenship and applicants have the citizenship of the NIIED designated countries. 

  • Education -
    1. Applicants who have graduated or are expecting to graduate high school are eligible to apply for a Bachelor’s or Associate degree program.
    2. Associate degree graduates are eligible to apply for a Bachelor’s degree program only.

     * Applicants that are expecting to graduate before 28th February 2022, must submit the required documents for credentials before the deadline to GKS Center, NIIED.


  • Grades -
    1. Applicant must have maintained a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) equivalent to or higher than or equal to -
    1. A percentage of 80% or above on a scale of 100 or hold a rank of the top 20% in the class.
    2. CGPA: 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, 3.23/5

    * Only for applicants applying for Associate or Bachelor’s degree programs.


    • Age -

    Must be under 25 years of age.


  • Health -
    1. All applicants must be in good mental and physical health.
    2. Applicants must submit Form 6. Personal Medical Assessment along with their application.
    3. GKS scholars are subject to having their scholarship reverted if any serious medical illness is found in the medical checkup upon arrival in South Korea.

    Application Period

    • Embassy Track - The date and deadline for application will be decided by the Embassy itself.
    • University Track - The date and deadline for the application will be decided by the Universities. Applications will be open until October 20th.
