It is known for a fact that being a K-pop idol can be hard, and not every body would like to sign up for years of training especially at a young age.
For that reason, a lot of people do not choose the path of being an idol. However today we shall share a list of some K-Pop idols who originally didn’t want to become idols, but eventually ended up being one
1. Kim Taehyung (BTS)
Kim Taehyung was interested in music but never thought about being an Idol. He had accompanied his friends to the audition for Big Hit however, he got pursued by the staff to give an audition and got selected. He's the only one who passed the audition from Daegu.
2. Kim Seokjin (BTS)
Kim Seokjin wanted to be an actor. He was pursuing his bachelor's when he gave the audition for Big Hit. He's was seen by a scout while he was leaving the bus and was further convinced to audition by the scout from the agency.
3. Suga (BTS)
Min Yoongi popularly know by his stage name Suga was interested in becoming a producer. Suga auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment after he saw a flyer for the company’s rap competition called “Hit It". Even though he had planned to become a producer he was convinced by Big Hit to join BTS. He has even joked about how Bang Shi Hyuk tricked him into becoming an idol.
4. Kai (EXO)
Kim Jong-in is known As Kai who belongs to famous group EXO. He has mentioned in the past that he didn't want to be an idol. He wanted to be a professional dancer. He said that he got pursued by his father to audition for SM entertainment but rejected his offer. Kai’s father then told him that he would buy him a video game console if he passed the audition, and the rest is history.
5. DK (Seventeen)
Lee Seok Min also known as DK is a member of the group "Seventeen". In an interview "Get In The Car", he revealed that he auditioned simply because he just wanted to give it a shot. He said that "I contacted a person who knows about Pledis Entertainment and took their audition, but I wasn’t interested in becoming an idol star. So, I went to the audition and casually sang “This Is The Moment”.
6. Taemin (SHINee)
It was revealed by Taemin in the past that he auditioned for SM Entertainment not because he wanted to be an idol but because he wanted to skip his tutoring classes. However, he got selected and debuted as a member of SHINee (if only bunking classes could make us an idol)
7. Jisoo (BLACKPINK)
Kim Jisoo is a member of BLACKPINK who iss known for her beautiful vocals. She originally wanted to be an actress and debut in a drama however, she auditioned for YG Entertainment and become an idol. She made her debut in drama in 2021 with "Snowdrop" which was a real hit. Even once Lisa mentioned that Jisso is a really good actor.
8. Irene (Red Velvet)
She was 20 years old when she was casted and she expressed her feeling of being pretty old to be a trainee. She was introduced to the public as one of the rookies in SM Entertainment and appeared in Henry's music video for "1-4-3 (I Love You)" in August 2013. She made her debut at the age of 23 with the group red velvet in 2014.
9. Eunwoo (Astro)
Cha-Eunwoo is a member of the group Astro. He's known for his beautiful vocals and amazing acting skills. Eunwoo wanted to be a doctor but somehow he ended up being an idol. Now he's an idol and has also acted in various dramas and played different roles.
10. Mark Lee (NCT)
Mark is a member of the group NCT. He didn't have any intention of being an idol. He accompanied his brother to the audition but he ended up being the one who was recruited.
11. Wooseok (UP10tion)
Kim Woo-Seok is a member of UP10tion. He is known by his stage name Wooshin. He wanted to be a barista and had no intention of being an idol. He was the first member to join the group.
